When polyester POY is twisted and stretched together, Draw Textured Yarn (DTY) yarn is obtained. DTY yarn is primarily used as a part of knitting and weaving fabrics to make textiles, home decor, seat covers, bags, and many different things. Depending on the areas of the filaments, DTY yarn can be in semidull or bright or trilobable bright.
The technical properties of DTY yarn can be molded in a few ways to make it suitable for the vast use of yarn. Various heating techniques can be used to create yarn sets for particular use - 1 heater DTY is normally woolen and more stretchy when contrasted with 2 heater with DTY. Also DTY yarn can be made with many combinations of intermingle points - this can be non-intermingle (NIM) with 0 - 10 knots/m or semi-intermingle (SIM) with 40 - 50 knots/m or higher -Intermingle (HIM) is 100 - 120 knots/m. These knots are not actually knots tied when two threads are broken, but tangled knots created by heating pressure. These blended yarns, also called interwoven yarns, are alternatives to lightly twisted yarns. Polyester DTY yarn can also be wound to high wind speeds such as 1500 TPM or 4000 TPM (twist per meter). This twisted yarn can also be heat set so that the yarn always heat sets the twist. Catonic DTY is another variant of polyester DTY, mainly used as part of blankets. Catonic DTY is produced using Catonic PET Chips.
Polyester DTY yarns can also be dyed in different colors through dope dyeing technology or traditional dyeing. DTY dyed with dope is usually packaged on a paper bobbin, while Raw White DTY for dyeing is loosely packaged on a perforated plastic tube so that all yarns can be effectively dyed when the bobbin is soaked. DTY is mainly produced in large quantities in China, India, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia, and exported to all parts of the world.
